Money date No. 10: A clear calendar and a busy brain
Decision-free coffee dates, too-small fast fashion and much, much too much thinking about the election
It’s been a relatively calm week, a welcome break after a bananas couple of weeks while I recorded the YDNAB audiobook. Things are still ramping up with the Assembly campaign; we have just 18 days until election day! (U.S. folks, have you made a plan to vote??)
In the past couple of weeks, I’ve started having articles published at Salon as part of its new business and economics vertical, a gig I was really proud to land. This one on why budgeting doesn’t work for poor people seems to have struck a particular chord with readers (and phew! because I wrote a whole book on the subject). This one on mending your clothes was also a delight to write, because I connected with all of the sources through Substack. Thank you for being a wonderful community!
The bulk of my focus, though, is on that upcoming election, because what else could I think about? I’m so proud of my Assembly candidate and the tough and optimistic campaign we’re running in a deeply red district. And I’m as filled with hope-apprehension as every Democrat about our presidential election. Even my next “personal finance” piece for Salon is about that topic — and I wrote a follow up for this newsletter that I’ll publish once that’s out. Are you wound up with election anxieties, too, or am I just too in it? What’s occupying your mind this fall?
