Happy holiday-slash-winter hibernation to all who are celebrating or taking advantage of others’ celebrations to enjoy some quiet days this week! I’m doing both.

I’ve been blocking off the last two weeks of December for family, food, rest and “no work” time since I worked closely with a company in 2020 and found out they give their whole staff this time off with pay every year. And my Midwestern brain thought You can do that??

You can. You absolutely can take more time off than our culture wants to allow you. Block it in your 2023 calendar now, and watch how you magically figure out how to make the time and money of it work.

Became an Insider: I’ve joined the ranks of personal finance writers at Insider! Keep an eye out for me — so far I’ve written about the problem of learning “good work ethic,” personal finance apps that don’t suck (too much), wealth building for LGBTQ+ Americans and why I’m not afraid of a recession.

Enterprising journo: My friend (and Healthy Rich editor!) Jessica Lawlor hosted me for a Q&A with MuckRack for their series on journalists launching their own media venture.

Teaching teachers: Next Gen Personal Finance invited me to speak to K-12 financial educators about budget culture and inclusive, budget-free financial education.

Achieving financial equality (nbd): The team at Penny Calling Penny interviewed me about building Healthy Rich and why we need financial education that intentionally speaks to marginalized communities.
