Yes! It's not about judging ourselves, it's about owning our agency. Money is only a tool, it is neutral. If I am building or fixing or improving something and I need more tools, it is not a moral dilemma, it's a necessity. "No shame and no blame"!
"Money is neutral" + "debt is neutral" are two things I've been trying to say/share with people in my life more regularly. I couldn't agree more with your comment, Kate. For the better part of a year I've had this low-vibrational malaise clouding me and I haven't been able to put my finger on exactly what's wrong. It feels like it's everything and nothing. I'm working on building my writing career and it's been slogging along and possibly that's been weighing me down. I will definitely get into this episode and check out the rest of the podcast. Thank you once again for your amazing content, I'm always encouraged by it.
This came to me after listening to a podcast this morning about what finances bring you- freedom, safety, time and leisure, the ability to invest in the things that bring you joy and so much more. Wanting more money can be greedy but it is not always. It can also be a natural desire which allows you more time to relax and enjoy the beautiful things we love during our finite time and that’s okay too!
This piece felt so real to me. I left tech to focus on my writing career and I moved back to my rural Iowa hometown after two decades in San Francisco. The desire for money to pay for creativity-fueling travel (or even a flight to somewhere that I can get a poke bowl and a decent cocktail) is stroooooong. Thanks for sharing how you're owning this desire for freedom/flexibility!
I’ll look it up! I was a socialist at 20, veered hard capitalist by 30, and have made my way back around to socialist at 38, so I think my heart has taken back the reins :)
