Calling it a comfort fund instead of an emergency fund is such a nervous system reset. Best financial reframe I’ve heard.

Thank you! I'm always worried about cheesy lingo, but sometimes it just clicks.

I like this reframing. I recently started calling my liquid fund Cash Reserves. I realized exactly what you share here. I don’t have financial emergencies and I’m not eager to plan for them. I do enjoy having a stash.

Yes! I love "stash" and "reserves," too. Kind of evokes a room full of money somewhere that you can wade into whenever you need it :)

Love the imagery of wading in money:-)

Thanks so much for the reminder that I don’t need to follow the gurus I will officially today. Stop calling it an emergency fund! I am now officially calling it a comfort fund, and I can see this differently. This is definitely a way to build money, resilience, mentally, and physically!

I love this, Johanna!

Thanks so so much for helping us break free from our dysfunctional relationship with money and personal finance! We are so grateful we found your wonderful book. Comfort fund article is brilliant for helping us shift our perspective towards that healthy outlook.

This is wonderful to hear, Jay! Glad you’re here :)

This is an interesting reframe! I like the direct callout to what having cash reserves can do: giving us comfort. 💕 I do like having a comfort fund being separate than a true emergency fund, personally. But for those that need this change up, especially to get started saving, I would definitely recommend this!
