I appreciate that you are explicitly centering health here. As someone with significant medical expenses (and whose medical/disability needs affect many other categories of purchases), I have often felt that mainstream financial advice is simply irrelevant to my situation. Thanks for bringing this into the conversation.

It took me a long time to figure it out, but if I’m not going to be able to pay it off when the credit card bill comes due, I can’t afford it and don’t spend it. I was in debt for decades, and I completely understand that not having children at home any longer makes a huge difference, but it’s the only way that I can stay on top of my finances.
