I’m a crap gardener but I’m slowly learning. I paid to have a raised bed installed in my front yard, along with a small sitting area. (My ADHD means if I don’t see it I won’t water it). I’ve learned that zucchini grows like a weed but is also suicidal, that basil loves full sun in Texas, and that many weeds are actually indigenous herbs. I only spend time outside at dawn and dusk because, Texas. But the mental health and general chill benefits have been well worth the cost to get started. I have become a weird bird lady. Also I have enough pesto for several winters.

Yay for learning! We're gardening at my house for the first time this year, and I'm astounded daily by everything plants do.

Right? I’m also gardening in the front to be critter friendly bc my dogs are not to be trusted 😂

I'm slowly learning to garden too and have gained a real appreciation for the changing seasons

I"m starting to love the idea of "taking August off" too- great reminder. I'm trying to quiet a lot of noise overall this month. I really dislike summer (the heat ugh) BUT this summer I leaned into the season more and made a little event of buying my favorite fancy ice cream (lavender honey) while watching women's soccer. It's a hobby I look forward to next summer :)

A new ice cream hobby is a great idea! Stay cool 😎

I bought myself a new swimsuit and a new shirt from a store for my body type. And they fit GREAT! I get soooo many compliments, and I feel good.

Amazing! Swimwear is so fraught; it's incredible to feel good in it.

So true!! I had NO idea how much it bothered me until it didn't

Bought a NEW couch for the first time ever! Not a secondhand one! And it's a recliner couch and oh so comfy, ESPECIALLY compared to the hand-me-down futon we'd been using for a year.

SUCH A BIG STEP! I did this for the first time just a few years ago, and it's a game-changer. Congrats!

I really enjoyed Happy Gilmore 2! I didn’t expect to, didn’t like the original, but my 16yo loves Adam Sandler, so we watched it together.

YES! THANK YOU! I loved the original as a kid, and I fully expected this one to be an awkward grab at nostalgia, but I was so happy with how it was done.

I'm flattered to be included! Thank you!

I purchased quality flatware and donated the old service to charity. It was only $40, but I feel a million times better.

Love those little details!

As someone who follows your work, it meant a lot to see my note made its way to this post. Thank you for what you do!

Also realizing I didn't actually answer your question at the end! The most joyful use of money in my life this summer has been putting it toward my wedding!

Dana Miranda's avatar

Congrats on the wedding (planning)!

Thank you for the mention, Miranda💫 August has me ragged and looking forward to autumn every year!

I think this is the real reason we're all so obsessed with pumpkin spice lattes :)

You have a point... can't wait!

My son and I took a planned in one week, no reservations made road trip through Oregon and Northern California with the dog. It was utterly magical, he really had to step up and help a lot, but we managed a ton of relaxation too.

Taking our four boys to Corpus Christi Texas and playing on the beach and forking over 600 to dolphin watching cruises and the Texas State Aquarium that does amazing work rescuing and rehabbing injured animals. I had no problem spending that money on awesome experiences.
