I’m a white woman who spent about 3/4 of her childhood living in a trailer. Without denying one bit of truth about racism, I still identify with a lot of this — indeed, I’ve written similar essays and am writing a book about it. Racism, classism and sexism are nasty. So is ageism, I’ve come to realize as I’ve grown older.
What really annoys me is when people who grew up with resources claim they earned it, and disdain people who didn’t have their advantages.
I love this.
